Introduction to Adoption

What is Adoption?

Legally, adoption is a permanent process that terminates the birth parents’ rights and creates parent- child relationships between the adoptive parents and the adopted child. After the adoption is finalized, the legal rights of the adoptive parents are the same as if the child had been born to them.

Of course, adoption is also much more. It is a life-changing decision, a tremendous gift given and received, and a new life for a child. It is the creation of a family.

Who Adopts?

People adopt for a variety of reasons. Many adoptive parents are unable to conceive children biologically because of infertility or health issues, or because they are single or in same-sex relationships. Others adopt because they want to provide a home for a child in need, and still more adopt as a way of legally recognizing an existing relationship.

We help people adopt for all kinds of reasons, as long as they are committed to providing a loving home for the adoptee.
